Political Cartoon

This political cartoon depicts Wsahington in Heaven while the two factions  argue over the pillars, while Washington tells partisians to keep the pillars of Federalism, Republicanism and Democracy.

The evidence overwhelmingly suggests that the Founding Fathers never anticipated nor supported the emergence of political parties. Despite this, political parties began to naturally form almost immediately as citizens and leaders organized around different views of the future of the country. Had political parties not emerged, the United States may have evolved into a very different form of governance, perhaps closer to resembling a true republic where power rested primarily in the hands of elected officials rather than being directly shaped by the people. The average citizen would have far less influential roles in shaping policy and leadership if they were not allowed to mobilize public opinion, create platforms, and articulate popular demands. Despite their flaws, political parties have played a critical role in expanding the democratic system we still use today. This development stands as a testament to the adaptability of the American political system and its capacity to accommodate the evolving needs and demands of its citizens. Overall this system ended up strengthening the democratic ideals they sought to protect.
