Military Tactics and Strategies Conclusion
I believe my secondary sources of historians giving their opinions are trustworthy in the fact that guerilla tactics, foreign alliances, and knowledge of colonial America were instrumental in winning independence for the Americans. My primary sources consisting of newspapers from the Revolutionary War era explicitly demonstrate that these strategies worked. It's also important to note that these tactics worked off of each other. For instance, the French navy utilized the tight passageways opening into the Atlantic to form blockades and trap the British in the colonies. This combines foreign alliances with knowledge of geography, albeit in the water and not on land. As we've seen from today's world affairs, foreign alliances are key to maintaining worldwide peace, hence why we have NATO. Spying also plays a key role in gaining intel on the enemy, similar to how Washington operated his "Culper Ring." Lastly, home field is always going to be an advantage. My mind immediately goes to the war in Vietnam when the Vietcong used their knowledge of the jungle and guerilla warfare to their advantage against the Americans. As of more recently, the recent wars in the Middle East have taken place in vast deserts, which are very different from what you would see in the United States. I hope this research allows us to compare and contrast how military and fighting strategies have evolved over time and improved.
