US Election 1816 results
"By the second decade of the nineteenth century the Republicans had won such an overwhelming victory that the Federalist 'aristocrats' no longer seemed to matter either politically or socially".1
In conclusion, the Federalists had been economically hurting from the Embargo Act of 1807 all the way to the end of the war. From domestic policies to foreign wars, trade had cratered and this devastated the industries and economy of New England which led to the Federalists being so radically against the war that kept hurting them. They would oppose the war by refusing to have their militias requisitioned, by trying to withold revenue to the government, and according to some by directly sending signals to British ships with blue light signals. This climaxed in the seemingly treasonous Hartford Convention with ludicrous demands to Congress just as the war ended with an additional news of victory in the South. This convention and the conduct of the New England Federalists throughout the war led to the rest of the country lambasting the Federalists and demonizing them. They would lose in a landslide during the Election of 1816 and by the time the election of 1820 rolled around the Democratic-Republicans ran unopposed. The Federalist Party had died.
