Introduction

An illustration of trade between Natives and Colonists, 1777

The influence of the Native Americans towards the United States is incalculable. The number of small time trade and conflicts between the groups are too great to go into detail on them here. To cover some of the most important topics, this research will primarily focus on the impact Native Americans had on aspects of how the United States operates and its culture. There are three pillars on which the impact of Native Americans stands the most strongly on.The first being the structure of the United States government. The second will focus on their guidance for America's westward expansion beyond the Appalachian Mountains. The third and last section will be primarily about the Native prescence when the naming of geography was in hand. These three pillars were chosen to educate on how deep of a sway the Native American culture had on a fledgling United States. My hypothesis is as stated: Native Americans had a large impact on the shaping of the United States and its rise to a world power starting from before its infancy.
