Conclusion
Exploring different aspects of the impact of media during this time has led to many mixed emotions. On the front, newspaper journalism provided information for colonists to know about the war and details of the battles. This usually included the results of the battle: how many were injured, how many deaths, and any forfeits. Newspapers informed the colonists while also convincing them of unity. The challenges, triumphs, and sacrifices endured by the colonies only made their desire for independence stronger. However, because of controversial media, not every colonist wanted to gain said independence. Through propaganda and loyalist newspapers, some colonists didn’t see the need to struggle and break away from British rule.
Through looking at newspapers, engravings, and cartoons published during the Revolutionary War, I was able to gain insights into the significant role the media played in shaping public opinion and influencing the course of the conflict. Similar to the present, media during the Revolutionary War influenced solidarity and division within the colonies.
