Introduction

Media has been popular throughout all eras of time. Currently, most get their news in digital form; before technological advances, media was brought to the people by print. Although useful in many ways, newspapers contain lots of helpful information and updates in the area they are published and sent out to. Similar to tons of other media, newspaper journalism has had its impact on society throughout many eras in time. Newspapers blossomed in America as early as the late 1600s, I wanted to explore their impact in the late 1700s. Even though they were not as sought-after as they were in their prime, newspapers were a huge part of the American Revolution. The topic I chose for this research project is newspaper journalism during the Revolutionary War. This research is essential because it will provide key details on how newspapers affected the colonists and their routines relating to obtaining their independence. In today’s world, social media has controversial effects on a wide variety of people. I believe this form of media (newspapers) could have a similar impact on the colonists. The Revolutionary War was a very eventful time in history; media in the late 1700s could have caused chaos or a sense of unity. Nonetheless, I believe that newspaper journalism during the Revolutionary War helped assist the outcome of the war, while also causing conflict through propaganda.
