Introduction to Shay's rebellion and thesis

Battle between Shays' rebels and the State Milita in massachusets

The United states costitution has lasted for over 235 years and has proven to be a marvel of political theology by the founding fathers. It ecompaces and incorperates so many monumental elightenment ideas that we still hold true to this day. As well they incorporated seperations of power and mechanisms to alter the system to change along with the flow of time. Scarily enough this document was almost not created out of complaceny with their current system and fear of relapsing into a monarchy. It was not until a small rebellion in Massachusettes that the leaders of our country realized the gaping insufficiencies and lack of leadership and unity.

Following the conlusion of the revolutionary war America was in shambles. Funding of the war by the government, and the consequential hinderance of economic stability caused the nation as a whole to spiral down alarmingly. Famers and veterans alike were drowning in crippling financial debt and the country was doing nothing to help them. To make things worse debtors were pressing to return on their investments and counsils were ignoring petitions to help ease their constituents loads. A leader emerged named Daniel Shay, who to fight against the unjust collections, lead a group of several hundred insurgents to shut down a court trying to push more unwanted legislation in august 1786. In January the next year they this time moved with 1200 upon a federal arsenal to take it down and send a message but they were repelled by a quickly assambled state malitia. Although this rebellion was small in size and damage, the impact was monumental. With a lack of coherentness and unity the country would be doomed to fail and fearing a larger rebellion in the future, they felt they needed to make a change.
