How Women were Influenced
Women were significantly influenced by the Stamp Act of 1765, this then forced a direct tax on lots of paper goods on colonies. This act made many items become taxed like newspapers, legal documents, etc. In response to many items getting taxed, women started to become more politically active and they became more aware of the impact of British policies having a toll on households and communities.
Before the Stamp Act, women were mainly focused on household responsibilities and had little to none political involvement. The only real responsibilities that they had were raising their families and supporting their households. All political decisions were up to men to decide and women didn't have much say.
After the Stamp Act, womens roles started to change significantly. Because of all the taxing happening on lots of goods, women became more politically active. They also formed the group Daughters of Liberty along with other small groups and organizations. Because of all of this involvement inpolitical and economic activities, women have gained a sense of agency and are all for the bigger picture of independence.
